I Am

By Julie

Written as part of Sunset in My Heart

I am my backyard, tall hedges line the sides

I am my mum’s room

I am a white t-shirt and swimming shorts

I am Tuna sushi with mayo and avocados

I am cold dark blue

I am the dim light placed on the floor

I am the sound of birds calling  at 4AM

I am an attractive extrovert

Someone you were in the past

I used to be very productive and keen on my interests and hobbies like art and drawing. I felt great about the drawings that I made at the time however I hate them now.

Something that you value in the present

My most important value in the present is family, specifically my mother. I used to be a rebellious and moody child when I was 11 until 14. I’ve learnt to appreciate my parents more this year. Especially since our school has prioritized the theme of gratefulness, despite how I HATE wellbeing exercises, it has made me reflect how grateful I am that my parents are alive and in my life.

Something that will never change

My body and mentality is constantly changing and so do my interests. My positive memories of my friends will never change. Though my friendship with them will become strained but memories of going to each others’ houses and parties might still stay the same. I started realizing this only now since I couldn’t think of anything else that doesn’t change. Maybe my core values won’t change.
