I Am

By Maha

Written as part of Sunset in My Heart

I am, the home when it smells like ramadan

I am, the smell of my cats

I am, my green coat that hides my insecurities

I am, sage green

I am, the sun

I am, waves crashing along the shore

I am, the soft touch of velvet

I am, the yellow character

That never fails to brighten a day

The sky is on fire with vibrant red and endless evening colours. The promising of a new tomorrow

Witnessing the beauty of mother nature

Someone you were in the past

When I was a tween in my youth, I was in Primary school. This school was in Berala. Looking back, I didn’t know who I was and tried to build myself based on other kids I looked up to.

I am proud that I have grown to love myself and though it took awhile to get here, I am extremely grateful to be on my journey to finding who I am and what I was meant to do in this life.

Something that you value in the present

At the present, I really value being a determined person. Though it might take awhile to reach a goal, I really value being able to keep aiming for something when I think it will be good for me.

I am also extremely grateful and value my mental state at the moment. I feel like instead of aiming to be happy 100% of the time, I’ve grown to enjoy being sad, and value the idea that without sadness there can be no happiness.

Something that will never change

Something that will never change is my love for Wollongong. It was always my escape from reality and always will be. The vibes and the people will forever have a place in my heart.

We appreciate the little things in life. Small things to appreciate in life are sunsets, family, friends, shelter, being able to breathe and have good health. The smaller things in life are just as valuable as diamonds. Just because something is bigger and better in value, doesn’t mean it’s necessarily more valuable.
