All workshops are facilitated by our Story Factory Storytellers and provide a safe and supportive space where young people can develop ideas and write. Guided by our expert staff, with support from their fellow writers, young people are empowered to create an extended, exciting piece of writing.
We’re running in-person and online workshops during term on Monday – Thursday for both primary school and high school students.

A OH KAY!
- After-School Program – Term 4
- Tuesdays from 21 October – 9 December 2025
- 4pm – 5.30pm
- Online
- For high school students, years 7-10
In this workshop series students engage in an exploration of a collection of online hybrid writing in prose and poetry by US writer, school psychologist and educator Amy Kay. They use her individual pieces as inspiration for their own imaginative or discursive writing. Students will consider the relationship between reading and writing as they use both writing by Amy Kay and the mentor texts that inspired her published texts as the stimulus for their own creativity. This workshop series will culminate in a sequence of texts that reflect the students’ own experiences and how their reading shaped their choices and voices as writers.

In Origin Stories students will focus on characterisations and create their own superhero and origin story. Mentor texts will focus on superheroes who explore and represent the diversity of their community.
Origin Stories gives young writers the opportunity to write in a range of formats (including interviews for television news and a talk show) as they develop their own rich and layered superhero characters.
