Vignettes

By Prisha, Year 9

The vignettes below by Prisha were composed for the Story Factory Giving Shop, a poetry installation run at the Sydney Writers’ Festival 2025. The installation was based on the idea that a well chosen poem is the perfect gift to share with someone special. Story Factory asked young people in Western Sydney to write poems that celebrate their favourite things about the people they love. In a series of creative workshops, young people from Story Factory’s Year of Poetry wrote about raucous laughs, resilience and everything in between.

Doing, not just showing.
Fingertips tactfully placing a cherry on top.
Pulling words out from inside

― Prisha

You sound like a volcano in Barbie Land
You sound like the pitter-patter of rain
at the end of school
You sound like music when it dances

― Prisha

Your voice feels like home
Like the sky always above
Dim lights and cushions
Warmth in winter, sun in rain

― Prisha

You are a beautiful bundle of contradictions
You are a chocolate with different layers
You are sweet but salty, soft but nutty
― Prisha
