Meet Story Factory’s inaugural Ambassadors

03 Sep 2025

Here at Story Factory we are incredibly excited to announce our inaugural Ambassador program. We welcome author and journalist Julia Baird; author, screenwriter and journalist Benjamin Law; actress and musician Zindzi Okenyo; novelist, screenwriter and playwright Debra Oswald; academic and author Dr Amy Thunig-McGregor; and writer and comedian Jennifer Wong.

As an organisation delivering creative writing programs that empower young people from under-resourced communities, these six talented and passionate individuals bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our mission. They also reflect the diversity and life experiences of the young people we work with.

I am delighted that these six wonderful creatives have agreed to support our work at Story Factory by becoming our inaugural ambassadors. All of them are passionate about the power of young people’s imaginations, and working alongside our Ambassadors is inspiring for all of us at Story Factory – including, most importantly, the thousands of young people we work with every year,” says Dr Catherine Keenan AM, Executive Director and Co-founder of Story Factory.

“Despite being an adult, in spirit I am still eight years old: pencil in hand, trying to figure out which word comes next in the story. It’s one reason why I love the work that Story Factory does. They take young people and their voices seriously, and create opportunities for them to express themselves, to build new worlds, to re-tell myths, to imagine pretty much anything on paper. Like Story Factory, I find great joy and meaning in writing stories, and I’m delighted to be an ambassador to support their wonderful work.”
