Art Write Light: Our exciting new collaboration with Bangarra Dance Theatre

We’re super excited to have started a brand new, three-year project: Art Write Light. Generously funded by The Balnaves Foundation, this project will give more than 600 young people from across Western Sydney the opportunity to engage with one of three contemporary artists, from different disciplines, and develop writing inspired by their creative practice.

For the first iteration of the project, which started this term, Bangarra Dance Theatre connected us with choreographer, educator and dancer Kaine Sultan Babij. Earlier in the term, Kaine shared insights into his practice with students at Chifley College Dunheved and Granville South Creative and Performing Arts High School. The students then used this as inspiration to write a piece about memory, place and identity. Kaine returned to see these students this week, and performed a new piece inspired by his work with them.

Writing continues next term, until it all culminates in a festival of light and words at the end of this year. Stay tuned!
