Well, after some furious last-minute bidding, our art exhibition Judge a Book, Buy its Cover came to a close at 5.30pm on Saturday, 19th October. All 44 artworks were sold, and the show raised more than $60,000. This will fund our free creative writing programs for young people, and is a huge help to us in the coming year.
The show was the result of many, many people generously choosing to help and we’d like to thank them all.

First, of course, our magnificently generous artists: Suzanne Archer, Narelle Autio, Bronwyn Bancroft, Melissa Becker, Sandra Blackburne, GW Bot, Tom Carment, Catherine Cassidy, Paul Connor, Lottie Consalvo, James Drinkwater, Marc Etherington, Michael Fitzjames, Will French, Ian Grant, Adam Hill, Dee Huxley, Mary Johnson, Locust Jones, Peter Kingston, Jasper Knight, Matt Liggins, Fiona Lowry, Debbie MacKinnon, Euan Macleod, Fred Mangan, Rowen Matthews, Tim Moore, Peter O’Doherty, Bernard Ollis, Polixeni Papapetrou, James Powditch, Hugh Ramage, Victor Rubin, Alli Sebastian Wolf, Wendy Sharpe, Neil Taylor, Bruce Whatley, James Willebrant, Neil Wilson, and Shona Wilson.

Sincere thanks also to Wendy Whiteley for the donation of a Brett Whiteley print, and to Neil and Jill Wilson for the donation of two Tim Storrier etchings. Also to Gabriella Roy of Aboriginal and Pacific art for the spontaneous donation of a Bugai painting, which was auctioned live at our opening event on Wednesday, 16th October.

Thanks also to Virgin Australia for the donation of two return flights to Melbourne, and to Art Series Hotels for the partial donation of two nights’ accommodation in either the Cullen, Blackman or Olsen Hotels, also auctioned live.

Thanks to our framers: Rod Denson at Jim Crofts Studios, Peter Jones at Sydney Fine Art, and Alex Holden at Funktion Picture Framing.

Thanks to Larry Macdonald at Charles Hewitt Gallery, Francesca Macdonald and Tim Fenton for hanging the show; and to Damien Minton, auctioneer extraordinaire, for conducting the live auction on our opening night.

Thanks also to Bryan Hooper, of Depot II Gallery; Vine – Providores of Fine Wines; Kingsley Mundey from International Art Services; and Ian Stewart at Tuffa Cases; Renee Crea; Will French; Lucie Beaman; Alex Catterall; Meg Madden and all the other Sydney Story Factory volunteers who helped on our opening nights.

Finally, enormous thanks to the small organising team, who worked for 6 months to pull the show together with grace and good humour: Neil and Jill Wilson, Margaret McGregor, Delia French and Breanna Natale.

Great work team!
