William Shakespeare’s extremely significant legacy has been left behind for our present and future world. This is thoroughly demonstrated through his 2000 coined words and phrases, his well known progression plots, his expansion of expectations on language and his substantial influence on dramatists and movies/films to incorporate his universal themes.
Shakespeare’s important legacy has impacted our present world by creating well known words/phrases, like ‘cold blooded’ and ‘good riddance’, which have been utilised in everyday vernacular and multiple appropriation movies/films. The common progression plot, popularised by Shakespeare, have greatly influenced films and dramas to follow this standard structure, as it is the most effective in enhancing a great text. The structure of orientation, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution, is commonly found in today’s movies like Inside Out and Moana. Shakespeare has successfully developed theatre to an incredible extent and has completely changed the way theatre is today by expanding common expectations, which has had a major influence on theatre. Evidently, “The 10 Things I Hate About You” is a modern telling of “The Taming Of The Shrew”, demonstrating how Shakespeare’s plays are remade in today’s time. William’s plays incorporate universal themes and portraits, extraordinary characters and captivating plotlines.
As a result of this, many of his plays are, still to this day, are continuously adapted and appropriated into successful films, novels and songs. For example, many of Shakespeare’s plays discuss common themes/tropes such as love, power, greed, discrimination, hatred and despair. Therefore, William Shakespeare’s ultimate legacy is still extremely well known and mentioned in today’s society, through his unforgettable plays.
