Can’t name my favourite track. I tried. I really did. I scanned my most played. I … ‘I Tried’ by Brandy Norwood. That was big for me, actually. I played it on loop for years. It was the most original track I’d ever heard, until I checked the liner notes and realised it wasn’t. ‘I Tried’ taught me all art is a conversation with what’s come before, lyrics from Coldplay, a beat from Iron Maiden, used to fashion something new. As creators, we are all the songs and stories we’ve ever heard, and whatever we make, it’s because of them.
