Monochromatic Mind

By Anna Chantachak, Out Of School

Where do you escape to?

“Home is where the heart is.”
What about those with a heart that’s been broken into a million, scattered shards? Where is their home – their escape?
When people escape, their thoughts wander to safe places or the wilderness, but mine is to a place of calm. Anywhere that I can be beside myself and think alone is enough; an empty place, where the moonlight dims and a cool night breeze blows.
Left with my own thoughts, I sink. I submerge. I drown. I struggle.
And that is my escape from this world that is coloured with nothing but monochromatic hues.
