Fishing Tale was written by Matthew Clark Rivera, who turned 6 on April 16, 2012. He says of himself: When I grow up I want to be a footy coach and I’m going to play in union and my team is Rovers, and I’ll drive my very own BMW going to the football stadium. My dream place is Disneyland. My favourite computer game is Moshi Monsters. And I play Lego too.
Tolu is 9 years old and wishes he had wings to fly so that when he gets angry he could fly high over the world in the clouds. His favourite food is a bacon and egg roll from the fair. His favourite team in rugby union is The Chiefs. This is his story.
In his own words: “WASSUP? My name is Alexander Makarytchev, author of my version of ‘Lethal Silence’. My hobbies are video gaming, reading and eating. My favourite games right now are ‘Minecraft’ and ‘Assassin’s Creed’. My favourite food is pizza. The things in life that I hate are music, long-distance running (I am pretty good at sprinting), and AAARRRRTTTT (I REALLY hate art!!). I have a brother who varies between nice and annoying.”
In her own words: “Hi. As you already know, my name is Minudi De Zoysa. I am an average eleven-year-old from the twenty-first century. I was lucky enough to be one of the children included in the Pop-up Story Factory writing workshops. Anyway, I was born in 2000. I have a fourteen-year-old brother who loves games and a lovely mother and father. I LOVE MY FAMILY!!!! I do not know where I would be without them. And that’s a little about me for you to know.”
Dolly came with her class to a writing workshop in July 2011. The class wrote the beginning of Lethal Silence together (in italics below), then finished it on their own. Dolly’s story was published in I Met a Martian and Other Stories, the Sydney Story Factory’s first official anthology.
In her own words: “‘My name is Ada Fang. My family consists of a Martian-like sister, caring mother, nerdy dad and a crazy dog. I love reading on the weekends in bed when it’s cold and raining outside and my dog Bibi is sleeping at the end of the bed. I also like reading late at night with a torch on.
In his own words: “‘What up gee! My name is Andrew Stevenson but you can call me Awesome for short. Now getting to the boring bit, there are a few things you have to know about me. I have a sister that probably comes from Mars as well as a mum and dad. I like to read crime and action books. My hobbies are basketball, table tennis and tennis.”
